Optrel Swiss Air – Aggregate Industries Trial

Results from the Swiss Air Respiratory System Trial are in!

Aggregate Industries has been working with Selectequip Ltd and optrel AG to investigate innovations around respiratory protection, including the Swiss Air.

Selectequip and optrel AG have just conducted a Swiss Air wearer trial at Greystone Quarry. The Swiss Air is the first TH3 Half Mask PAPR Respiratory System on the market that doesn’t require individual Face Fit Tests. As part of the trial, four members of the maintenance team tried the Swiss Air over two weeks, before sharing their feedback with Selectequip.

The trial was a resounding success, with the team reporting that the unit provided cool air, was lightweight and could be safely worn with facial hair. The battery also performed well throughout. In fact, the team enjoyed ten hours of usage over four days, with no need to charge.

How did the team rate their Swiss Air experience?

Paul Bonney, the Maintenance Supervisor at Greystone Quarry, shared his feedback after the trial:

“The initial setup was very quick and easy. Once the unit had been donned, it was noticeable how light it was. Multiple people can share the backpack by using their own masks, costs can be kept down. No face fit tests are required, and the filters last very well. To conclude, I would say this has to be one of the most effective items of PPE available to protect personnel from exposure to harmful dust. The Swiss Air is very easy to set up, has a very good battery and filter life, and is not cumbersome to wear.”
