Selectequip has a rich history of creating sustainable safety solutions.
In 2003, we created our first sustainable initiative: to make rail point ID plates from recycled milk bottle top material.
In recent years, we have continued our sustainable mission, bringing numerous eco solutions to market,
such as the Mobile Expandable Wellbeing Unit and the Luxsolis.
As an organisation, we have been Zero Waste to Landfill since 2016, however, recently we have taken further steps
to minimise waste and maximise the use of recycled materials throughout our company.
Read on to see what we’re doing to make the world a more sustainable place for all of us.
Our Sustainable Initiatives
Sustainable Packaging – 2021
In 2021, we committed to shipping all Selectequip Shop PPE orders in sustainable packaging – made from 80% reclaimed and 100% recycled materials.
95% of our other product ranges are shipped from our Lichfield Warehouse in recyclable cardboard packaging.
Textile Recycling – 2021
From Hi-Vis to Corporate Workwear, all obsolete or unwanted clothing is recycled in our Lichfield Warehouse via our partner Avena’s Textile Recycling Scheme.
We contribute all discontinued clothing and any clothing returns to the recycling scheme, whilst also encouraging our team to donate any unwanted clothing.
Paperless Processes – 2018
In 2018, we introduced an online Product Inventory Management System in both Selectequip Lichfield and Wakefield. This allowed us to remove over 75% of all paper processes throughout the organisation.
1 Minute to Welfare, Endless Sustainable Benefits
In 2020, we created the Mobile Expandable Wellbeing Unit, the first all-in-one welfare, toilet, and first response station, which compacts to a 4ft cube for deployment at the point of work on site.
We engineered the MEWU for sustainability, which is why the frame is made from 92% recycled materials and the removable waste
system has no environmental impact.
When compared to a standard full-sized portable toilet, twice as many MEWUs can be transported – reducing the amount of fuel required to move multiple units.
Luxsolis – 2019
Leading the Way for Safety and Sustainability
In 2019, we created the Luxsolis Solar Stair Lighting to reduce slips, trips and falls on Access Point Stairs and Walkways. A zero-emissions solution, the Luxsolis also features a timed sensor to further conserve solar energy.
Sustainable Signage – 2003
Our Track Record of Sustainable Innovation
Since 2003, we have been committed to sustainable Signage innovations for the Rail Industry and beyond.
Our first idea was to make track point ID plates from recycled milk bottle top material, and later that year, to replace steel mileposts with recyclable Makrolon polycarbonate.
These products are still made from the same kind of materials today – but since opening our Signage Manufacturing Site in 2013, we now manufacture these products in-house.
We are also committed to sourcing other ecofriendly signage materials wherever possible and have recently 100% recyclable vertex to print bespoke branded wallpaper.
